Opening for the Season

As promised in my last blog, here’s a peek at what the shed looks like during the off-season (November through April). During the colder months, my Art Shed transforms into a good old-fashioned storage shed—a very beautiful, glorified one—but a shed nonetheless! It holds everything from photoshoot props and my bike to free roadside treasures I’ve picked up to repurpose. I will fix them up soon, so keep an eye out for some “new” chairs making their debut in upcoming photoshoots!

Speaking of treasures, you will also see a bundle of gorgeous vintage frames stacked in the corner. A friend of a friend was cleaning out her sheds, and when my amazing friend heard, she immediately thought of me. I said, “Yes,” of course—and scored these beautiful free frames! I love to frame my work, and lately, I’ve even started learning how to make my own. It’s a whole new kind of creative fun.

April has been a tricky month with the weather, so progress has been slow! The weather has thrown everything at me—rain, snow, wind, and all on my days off, of course! That’s made it tough to get into the shed and to start pulling things out. But finally, progress is happening!

Today, on this gorgeous day, I cleared out all my winter storage from the Art Shed. I even built a new shelf and did a deep clean—which mainly consisted of shooing out some spiders who have moved in over the winter. I vacuumed, dusted, and took out some of the photoshoot props and frames to get this space ready for creating. I even took down the backdrop and placed it behind my workspace. It’s been blocking one of the side windows, and I’ve missed having both views open—it makes the whole space feel lighter and more inspiring.

It is still a little too cold to keep my paints in there at night, but soon! Very soon, I will be back in there and painting again!

Below is a view of my clean (and almost ready) Art Shed!
