WHAT A MESS?!

Hello everyone!

It’s been a while since I last posted. A lot of things have been happening behind the scenes. And honestly, my heart has been very heavy with everything that has unfolded in our country right now (and really over the past year).

Children are being used as bait. Nurses are being shot for helping women. Women are being killed. Families are being torn apart. Citizens are being detained without cause. Systems that were meant to protect us are being dismantled. And horrible racism is coming from the disgusting depths. What a heartbreaking and infuriating mess!

My sister-in-law recently reminded me to keep looking for the good — and she’s right! There are good things happening as well. There are many people in our nation who are doing wonderful things in a variety of ways, and that makes me proud. So I want to spread more of that good.

I want to say this clearly: I see you, and you are loved!

Your skin tone is beautiful.

Your culture is beautiful.

Your accent is beautiful.

Your babies are beautiful.

Your sexual orientation is beautiful.

Whatever gender you identify with — you are beautiful.

All these things make our country richer and more whole — and you belong here, exactly as you are.

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about this quote I read from Jacqueline Woodson:

“Diversity is about all of us, and about us having to figure out how to walk through this world together.“ The key word here is together

Some of you may not know this, but I am an avid gardener! One of the best ways to create a healthy, thriving garden is through diversity. The more diverse a garden is, the healthier everything becomes — the soil, the wildlife, and even you, through the variety of foods you grow and eat. Diversity strengthens life!

I believe in a world where beautiful diversity is celebrated. Where neighbors come together and support each other. Where garden plots and overflowing vegetables are grown on every corner so no one is hungry and no one is lonely. I choose to continue to put love, kindness, and beauty into the world because I believe our future will be beautifully diverse. I know this future is possible.

It didn’t feel right to just jump back into sharing my artwork without first expressing what was on my heart! I do have exciting updates and more fun, artsy things coming soon.

In the meantime, please take care of yourselves and your neighbors!

With Love,

Sara
