Lobster Painting & More
I finally completed a painting I've been working on for years, and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. "In This Together" is one of those pieces I'd return to in phases—setting it down, coming back, slowly discovering what it wanted to be. It started with a blue lobster, then came a green one. I added the boards in the background, and then a red one. That's when it hit me: why not all the colors of the rainbow? I love how it turned out! Take a look at my gallery to see more photos and all the details about this new painting: Lobster Painting.
Did you know that lobsters, though most are a greenish-brown, can actually display a wide range of colors? A special crustacean protein interacts with its dietary pigments to change the color of their exoskeleton. Lobsters are all the same on the inside—their colors simply vary on the outside, just like us! The only color we've never seen in nature is purple, but I can only hope! And the fact that this painting is ready just in time for Pride Month? Pure happenstance—but I am totally here for it!
Those of you who know me really well know how much Pride Month means to me—it's one of my favorite times of year. Pride Month is about visibility, acceptance, and the reminder that love and human dignity belong to everyone. At its heart, it's purely about spreading love, celebrating every beautiful soul, and raising awareness of the LGBTQ+ community's ongoing journey toward equality.
And Juneteenth is just around the corner, too! It’s perfect timing! Juneteenth commemorates the true end of slavery in America. Although the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed two years earlier, many enslaved people were never told and continued to be held in bondage until Union soldiers arrived in Texas on June 19, 1865, to deliver the news. Just like Pride Month, Juneteenth carries a powerful message of shared humanity—the idea that freedom, dignity, and belonging are for everyone. There's truly no better way to share the message that we are all “in this together!”
